Barren Creek Band Get in the Flow!!!
|
"Carry on your Wayward Son, there'll be peace
when you are done!"......
One of my favorite lines from one of my favorite songs. One of the
things we enjoy most about playing music in a live band is the
effect we can have on the listeners emotions. We can make them
feel good, sad, and hopeful. Music is an expression of inner
emotion, and can pull at memories and experiences we all would
like to feel and embrace. That is a powerful responsibility, and we
love the feeling we get from having you enjoy our music.
That being said, we are Barren Creek Band, seven guys who share
a goal of enjoying and passing on the emotion of music. Those
seven guys are......
Dave Davis - That's me. I'll be doing most of the writing for the web
site. I've been playing music for over 30 years. That makes me old by
some standards, but I'm young at heart. I play rhythm guitar (Fender)
and acoustic guitar (Takamine). I've been singing as long as I can
remember, and love the harmonies we've developed in this band.
Come out to our gigs, shake my hand and say hi!
Mike Little - Mike has been playing drums with me for almost 25
years, and let me tell ya', he only gets better with time. Mike sings
and plays drums! An unusual combination for sure, but he excels at
both. Harmonies and lead vocals, intricate rhythms, and a heck of a
nice guy. He's been playing with Barren Creek almost from it's birth,
a little more than 19 years. He was also the last one of us to hit that
40th birthday (looks younger than that, don't he. Music keeps us
young). Mike plays Pearl drums.
Bob Drehmer - Bob came to us about 7 years ago with a blend of
voice and musicianship that instantly blended with Mike and I.
Bob is the one we stick with the really high note, mostly because he
can hit them so easily without sounding like his shorts are too tight.
It's natural for him, and opened up a new and broader array of
songs to do. Before Bob we were doing mostly two part harmonies,
solos. Now, the band is two fold, as strong in vocals as it is in
instruments. Bob doubles on keyboards and guitars, and a mean
cow bell on Honky-Tonk Woman. He plays Yamaha keyboards and a
Gibson guitar.
Clay Bailey - You know the Skynyrd song Gimme Three Steps where,
during the guitar solo, the singer hollers "Can He Play?" That's
Clay on guitar! Any song, any challenge we've thrown at him he's
handled gracefully and professionally. Not only can he play, he sings
too! Throw in a harmonica solo occasionally and there you have it.
When Clay auditioned he blew us away. He was the second try out
and we didn't have any more after that, he was so good. Clay plays
Fender guitars and any style or brand of harmonica.
Tom Mavity - Tom is the newest member of Barren Creek. He takes over
the bass duties from me and his chops are great. Tom is really laid back,
but if you pay close attention, he's having a great time, just like the rest of
us. Tom is quickly becoming a breath of fresh air into the band, which will
Translate into a better over all performance from all of us. He has added
another voice to the mix, and even solos on a ChuckBerry/Beatles medley.
Tom plays a Fender Bass.
Steve Woolston - Steve has played with us before, several years ago. He's
a talented musician with great vocals. He's a natural fit for us, and like Clay
can play any style of music. Steve provides us with that lead guitar sound
when Clay can't make a gig, and we are so grateful for his friendship and
company on and off stage. Steve plays Fender guitars. Geeze, with all these
fender guitars being promoted, you'd think they would sponsor us or
something.
